There are many rules for discussion. So many times people say that you should never discuss politics or religion. But as Masons we do not have an option regarding these matters. Many of our Forefathers were Masons. Our nation was given birth based upon Masonic principles. There is literally no way to separation Masonry from the birth of America. It was fellow Masons who were our Forefathers. It was fellow Masons who met in secret to establish a nation where free men would be free to govern themselves. It was fellow Masons who fought on the lines of the American Revolution. It was fellow Masons from France who came to offer aid and assistance to the struggling Colonist forces. It was fellow Masons who had the courage to enlighten and inform the masses about the rights of men to live free. Our nation was built upon Masonic principles. Masonry has no option but to be political, not party politics, but national involvement. It was Masons who began this country and it is up to Masons to keep this country.
Our oath is to God which means we have no option but to support God. In a time where God is not popular it is up the Masons to stand in the gap. It does not matter if God is unpopular or not politically correct. Masons have never worried about being politically correct. If Masons were worried about being politically correct there would never have been an America. In our oath we use the Holy Scriptures. Our Forefathers used the Holy Scriptures. Our Forefathers were not bothered by possibly offended this group or that group. Our Forefathers had the courage to stand and, if needed, stand alone. The question is not what Masons should be doing in the present age. The question is whether or not Masons have the courage to stand in the present age.
Our Masonic Forefathers created the basis for the Constitution and the Bill of Rights. Our Masonic Forefathers made unbelievable sacrifices to give this country birth. Are our present day Masons carrying on their vision or are we abandoning the posts which they have established? As Masons we have no choice but to openly and unabashedly support and defend our nation both verbally and physically. We have no option but to be involved in the affairs of our country. We have no option but to be involved in matters of our Constitution. We have no option but to be involved in matters of God. We have no option but to be a resounding voice in the midst of a silent majority allowing things to die on the vines of political correctness. We have no option but to stand for and against many things regardless if of whom it may offend. Either we are Masons or we need to leave the Fraternity.
Our Masonic Forefathers were men of immense courage. Are we Masons or are we political puppets speaking words we no longer truly believe standing for nothing and not wanting to offend? As a Mason I will be offensive to many. As a Mason I will be an encouragement to many more. Masonry was offensive to the leaders of Soviet Russia which is why Masonry was banned for many years. Masonry and the Holy Scriptures are inseparable. Within every step, ritual, prayer, and precept of Masonry are found both the Old and New Testament. We must never be shy regarding this fact. If we are to be proud Masons then we must be proud of our principles, steps, rituals, prayers and precepts. We are called to be a standard for the world through every aspect of our working tools. Masonry is not and never has been an organization for the meek. Masonry has always and will continue to be the impetus for good and change. Anyone standing for good and positive change in the world will be offensive to many. But there has never been positive change in the world that has not offended someone somewhere. May we as Masons be more concerned with following the examples of our Masonic Forefathers and the principles of Masonry than we are worrying about the possibility of offending someone in the process.
